Cardigans are the perfect solution for easing in to fall - not too heavy, not too light. There's something innately comforting about wrapping yourself with a little warmth when you need it, and you don't have to swap style for feeling cozy.

I asked our Uncommon Threads team which cardigan they wanted to cast on for fall, and I think you'll love the variety of silhouettes and textures they've chosen. See below for their pattern picks as well as thoughtful yarn pairings to make each one a cardigan to treasure.

Ready to cast on? You'll have more fun and be more likely to finish successfully when you join our Knit/Crochet-along that meets every Friday, alternating between 11:30 am and 4 pm start times. You'll get help when you need it, and enjoy the company of other knitters and crocheters every week.

THE TEAM HAS OPINIONS...

From a short-sleeved, lightweight layer to a boxy jacket with a high collar; from simple stockinette to cables and lace, you'll find a cardigan that's right for you. Here's a few staff picks to help you decide!

Margaret's Pick:
MARIGOLD BY BEATRIX KOVACS

Marigold Cardigan. Lamana Como
I chose the Marigold Cardigan because I love the wavy lines created by cables and the picot edges.
I really enjoy Beatrix Kovacs’ attention to detail in her patterns. Details like neckline shape, edge finishing, and overall silhouette made this pattern go at the top of my queue even before the testing phase was done.
Yarn to Use: Lamana Como

Lisa's Pick:
PAUL BY MORECA KNIT

Paul Cardigan
The loose relaxed fit with the neat and polished button band is what attracted me to this oversized cardigan! I’ve had my eye on Como all summer long every time I go into work, so I can't wait to finish my other projects and start this one.
Yarn to Use: Lamana Como

Mari's Pick:
AVA JACKET BY MY FAVOURITE THINGS

Ava Jacket. Isager Soft Fine
I love the over-sized structure of the Ava. The Isager yarns are made to be partnered, and the Soft Fine held with Spinni produces an amazing fabric with structure and drape.
Yarn to Use: Isager Soft Fine & Spinni

Stephanie's Pick:
MAGGIE BY PETITEKNIT

Maggie Cardigan.
I've been looking for a simple cardigan that's not so boxy or oversized - I love wide-leg jeans and I don't need more volume on top! I've also heard that the shoulder construction in this pattern is top-notch.
Yarn to Use: Rowan Felted Tweed or Lamana Como

Gabrielle's Pick:
HESPER BY AMY CHRISTOFFERS

Hesper Cardigan. Mohair Tweed
Let the yarn do the (color)work in this fun quilt-inspired cardigan!

Debbie's Pick:
BETULA BY JACQUELINE DILLEN

Betula.  Blue Sky Woolstok
I wanted to add a textured cardigan with interesting details to my wardrobe. Woolstok will give it the warm soft rustic look that I’m going for.
Yarn to Use: Blue Sky Woolstok

Erin's Pick:
LAKES BY OZETTA

Lakes
I want to make the Lakes Cardigan because it looks like a clean, sophisticated cardigan that will be a staple in my wardrobe, and I find a saddle shoulder construction fun.

Elise's Pick:
NANTUCKET RIBBED CARDIGAN BY ALEXANDRA TAVEL

Nantucket Ribbed Cardigan. Berroco Ultra Alpaca
A classic fisherman's rib cardigan, but it's crochet! A relaxed, slouchy style that is a wardrobe staple.

Yarn to Use: Berroco Ultra Alpaca or Ultra Wool
