2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl

2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl

We're Counting Down the Days!

In just 3 short weeks the entire SF Bay Area will be alive with the electricity of the 2026 Bay Area Yarn Crawl.

Besides the bounty of our existing yarn lines, we'll have two yarn pop-ups during the event: MORE yarn bases from Miss Babs and new yarns from Playful Day Yarns. In addition, we have the fabulous Amy Snell teaching three classes during the event. And we'll probably have a few other events up our sleeves - stay tuned. In the meantime, here's what you can look forward to from Uncommon Threads!

The Right Yarn for the Job
Sunday, March 15 • 5:30 - 7 pm

Many's the sad knitter who has been lured into an unwise marriage of yarn-to-pattern by the flash of color in a pretty little variegated skein or come-hither glance of mohair, only to realize too late that THIS pattern and THAT yarn were never meant to be together.

Find out how you can make better yarn/pattern pairings while you visit the 24 participating yarn shops!
Cost: $25 Register online

Tips & Tricks for Next-Level Knitting
Monday, March 16 • 10 am - 1 pm

Do you always bind off too tightly? Do your socks have funny points at the toes or holes in the gussets? Ever twisted your cast-on row when you were joining in the round? Does your knitting "row out?" Do your decreases not quite match? In this class, we'll explore solutions for all of these problems and many more of the common issues that plague knitters. Come prepared with your stickiest knitting-related issues and we’ll see if I can’t find a better way for you to get the results you want.

This class is suitable for Intermediate Knitters. Advanced Beginners are also welcome.

Supplies: None required, although students may prefer to have yarn and needles handy to practice some of the techniques that will be demonstrated.

Homework: None

Cost: $85. Register online

Knitwear Repair: Resurrecting Your Damaged Knits
Monday, March 16 • 2-5pm

No matter how much care we take with our knitted items, sometimes they develop holes, pulls, snags, or even moth damage. Never fear! With just a bit of effort, you can repair the damage and ready your knits for many more years of use.  In this class you’ll learn several different methods for repairing damage, and when to use each.

Intermediate and up: Students should be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work in the round, and read their knitting.

Homework: Make a flat swatch using a smooth, light color worsted weight yarn and straight needles to suit (usually US# 6-8) by casting on 20 stitches and knit at least 4”  in stockinette. Bind off.

Supplies: At least 15 extra yards of the worsted weight yarn used to knit your swatch, dpns at least two sizes smaller than the needles used in your swatch, locking stitch markers or coil-less safety pins, a tapestry needle, and a crochet hook in size H, I, or J (5.0 , 5.5, or 6.0  mm). A darning egg  or small ball are useful but not required.

Cost: $85 Register online
